Disease is a loss of balance between Yin, Yang, Qi and Blood. In the West we would describe the maintenance of this balance as homeostasis. Treating the imbalance is called treating ‘patterns of disharmony’.
I am a fully qualified practitioner of Acupuncture, Laser Acupuncture, Emotional Freedom Technique and Aromatherapy and Massage, having been a teacher of Special Educational Needs for over 20 years and
involved in complementary health care since I began teaching. In September 2004 I was a post graduate student at Zhejiang University, China, specialising in the practice of acupuncture for women's health and children.
In September 2005 I began an exciting project at Stanchester Community School which gave students the opportunity to experience a course of acupuncture to help support difficulties with ADHD, Anger Management and Anxiety and Stress. This was covered extensively in the local and national press and on Television, including BBC Newsround. I continue my own professional development as a matter of importance and am a fully insured member of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners.

I have taught natural health to both young people in schools and adults as part of adult learning and leisure courses. I have also designed 'Stress Busting' courses for whole families to attend, which have been lots of fun and included quiet time for breathing, creative visualisation and laughter therapy. I am passionate about the use of acupuncture and natural approaches to health as part of our everyday lives. I love the idea of family members taking the time and space to be treated professionally with acupuncture whilst learning techniques such as Emotional Freedom and the use of essential oils to enhance their treatment success and wellbeing at home.
My journey in natural health began by undertaking a short evening adult education class in aromatherapy. I enjoyed this so much that I then followed this with a professional qualification in aromatherapy and massage.

I was lucky enough to find a course which included a basic insight into Traditional Chinese Medicine and so when my eldest daughter at two years old was diagnosed with asthma and given western drugs I had the knowledge to realise there were other more gentle and strengthening ways to treat her. I took her to an acupuncturist who cured Caitlin of asthma within six treatments. This success was life changing. I was also treated, and it was at this time I realised I was to become a practitioner of acupuncture myself. I undertook an intensive three and half year training and am now in a well established private practice. Alongside my private practice I also work for Force Cancer Charity in Exeter, offering Acupuncture and Aromatherapy Massage.
I add to my skills regularly through Continual Professional Development courses which have included the use of needle free Low Level Laser Therapy and the Emotional Freedom Technique. Being a practitioner of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine and other natural approaches to health is a life long journey of learning and discovery.
