Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which originated in China and has developed over several thousand years. Other treatments include herbal medicine, moxibustion and massage.

I decided to train as a Complementary Practitioner in 1995, having used herbal remedies and various therapies myself for several years. In the same year I qualified in Anatomy, Physiology & Massage. I then went on to qualify in Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Indian Head Massage.
Once fully qualified I then decided to take the plunge and leave my full time administration job to set up my own practice offering treatments at my clinic room in Watford plus a mobile therapy service within Hertfordshire and North London. My work whilst based in this area also included being a volunteer aromatherapist at the Peace Hospice in Watford, giving onsite massage treatments at companies such as Camelot and teaching introductory massage courses at local colleges. During this time I was also lucky enough to be involved in giving talks and massage demonstrations at the Natural Health Show in London plus various festivals and events.
In 2000 I relocated my practice to Devon where I now work as a freelance complementary practitioner, once again offering both a mobile and clinic based service.
My interest in natural remedies began when my grandma bought me my first Body Shop product in the late 1970s, when the shops first opened. She was the first person I knew who spoke about herbal medicine and alternative therapies and this interest in all things natural seems to have been passed down to me. My passion for cruelty free products and animal rights grew from this and at age 13 I became a vegetarian and started exploring the wider issues relating to animal rights and the environment. These beliefs have remained an important part of my life and have led me to other interests such as complementary medicine.
Today, as well as offering a range of therapies I have also developed my own aromatherapy product range, Purple Petal Therapeutic Remedies, which I sell through local craft fairs and mail order. My aim when I started to blend my own products was to produce remedies that were effective, but also completely free of all animal ingredients and artificial chemicals, that I could use myself and give to people who visited me for treatments. As more people started requesting products they could give to their friends and family I decided to develop a product range that would give everyone the opportunity to get the benefits of aromatherapy in their own home. The range is constantly evolving as I love experimenting with essential oils to see what my next potion will be!
